Turkey Safety

Turkey remains safer than most of Europe and North America, although pickpocketing and purse-snatching are becoming more common in İstanbul and other major cities. But violent street crime is fortunately rare. Keep your wits about you and an eye on your belongings just as you would anywhere else, and make sure your passport is secure at all times. Female travellers are also safer on their own than in other European countries, except for well-known “red-light” districts, and some eastern towns.
