Sri Lanka Money
The Sri Lankan currency is the rupee, often abbreviated as Rs, divided into 100 cents. Rupee coins come in denominations of 1, 2, 5 and 10 rupees. Notes come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 rupees. ATMs are set in many places in the cities and suburbs. Most widely accepted cards are American Express, Visa and MasterCard.
It is customary to tip guides, drivers, hotel housekeeping and restaurant staff if you are satisfy with the service. The average tip is 100 rupees for housekeeping and a 10% service charge is added to your meal bill for restaurant staff.
There is no tourist tax-refund system in operation in Sri Lanka.
