Singapore Communication


There are three main telecommunication providers in Singapore, SingTel, StarHub and MobileOne. Prepaid SIM cards are sold in 7-Eleven convenience stores, phone shops and currency exchange counters, just bring your own GSM/3G phone or buy a cheap used handset in Singapore. You will need to show an international passport or Singapore ID to sign up. Calling cards are also available for specific international destinations and are usually cheaper.


Singapore has four official languages:Tamil, Mandarin Chinese, English and Malay. English is the most wide spread language and is spoken by practically everyone.


Free Wi-Fi hotspots can be found all around the city. You only need to sign up for the Wireless@SG service and confirm your registration with your phone. Fast food outlets and international chains provide free internet access as well.
